About San Diego Korean Food Week
The first and longest Korean food related event in U.S., the Korean Food Week will take place from September 11th to the 20th in San Diego. The Korean Food Week is a week long "celebration" of the uniqueness, healthiness, and variety of Korean cuisine in San Diego. There will be over 20 restaurants participating in the event, primarily on Convoy Street, but also around San Diego including Oceanside, National City, and other places. ![]()
This September, Korean restaurants will be the focus of this ethnic food celebration. Noted for its many side dishes, Korean food is largely based on rice, noodles, tofu, vegetables, and meats and is known being a healthy choice. The Korean Food Week will put the spotlight on Korean cuisine and bring attention to mainstream San Diego, who may not be familiar with their Asian fares. ![]()
The Korean Thanksgiving, called Chu'sok ("fall evening") is a "Harvest Moon" festival. On this day, Koreans perform an ancestor worship ritual with an offer of food made of new crops to thank their ancestors for giving them good fortune. Similar to the American Thanksgiving, Chu'sok is the time for family to reunite and give thanks for their blessings by sharing foods and traditional drinks.
The 2008 Korean Food Week was supported by the Office of Mayor Jerry Sanders, the Korean American Association, San Diego Supervisor Ron Roberts, District 4 San Diego County, Fox 6, Mission Valley News & Views, the Korean American Bar Association, the Korean American Coalition, KTSD-TV, Korea Daily, Korea Times, Radio Seoul, Radio Korea.
The creators of this event are Suji Kim from SUJIKIM International and Bridge International, and co-producer Dennis-Michael Broussard from Silk Road Productions.
